Well, this was the first year in quite a while that our family was without a ton of company on the fourth of July. We have had my younger sister Lorraine living with us this summer which has made things more fun for everyone. Our family attempted to head to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for the 4th this year for the day, but when we got closer, we could see that the fair was a mad house of people. So, we quickly had a change of plans and went to the Wild Animal Park instead. Even though it was really warm outside, it was nice to go on their train ride and relax with the kids. It is so fun to see them get excited about all the animals.
After the animal park, we came back home and had a BBQ. We had plans to make homemade ice cream (a Lewis family tradition) but realized that we were running out of time. We decided that we would forgo the ice cream and head out to the ocean to see the fireworks over the bay for the first time. We would usually go to the local high school. We didn't really know exactly where they were going to be or where to park, so we parked at the San Diego airport parking and walked with the kids across the street to the bay where they had 4 fireworks shows happening simultaneously. It really was a sight to see. It is fun to have our little family to start our own traditions.
